Once we had everything together, the pitch was relatively easy. We had a practice pitch day one week before our real presentation. The practice day turned out to be extremely helpful. During our practice day, we had a flyer and the information, but we did not have everything that an audience needed. For example, on our flyer, we did not include a "logistics" section. This section is important because there are always problems to work around, and the logistics section was a great way to show an audience that we had already thought about it.
The practice presentation was pretty easy, we were only presenting to our classmates and teacher. Once the professional pitch day came, though, it was not as laid back. There were administrators in the room with us and there was a representative from an elementary school. Our group printed off flyers for the audience, which helped a lot. Even though I had talked to all of these administrators before, it still made me nervous. They were all listening to the details of our project, so the presentation had to run smoothly. At the end of the presentation, we had time for questions. Many people had questions or comments, which was great because that means they were interested enough to want to dig deeper. Even my classmates had questions or comments. All of the questions and comments helped us out, these allowed us to know what we needed to work on, and where we needed to add little details.

My group, Mia, Ellie, and I, chose this program because we wanted to help children in need. The SMILE Program is designed to give kids a high school-aged student, a mentor, who could positively impact their lives. This project is important because there are many children in the community who need someone constant in his or her life who is a positive role-model. We hope to accomplish a way for the kids to have a mentor with similar interests. For example, if a child loves football, we will pair him or her up with a mentor who also loves football. This way, the kids look forward to meet with their mentors. A relationship can build with the two, focused on their similar interests.
This program is aimed to be after school, so that the pairs can have enough time and resources to do what they are interested in. The meets will be on the high school campus; because the campus has places to play tennis, hike, play football, and so much more. |
